Rope-n-Saw Life

(personal theories & practices)

Life as a climbing/rigging Arborist is hard and deadly with special requirements and passions.
This is a small collection of the model theories i developed that stood the tests of these rigors;
i think these theories are part of the raw way these things work! more / less opening drivel    >>>>

thumbnail for nip, ahley book of knots, strength loss, tension show:rope weakens, make stronger, don't bend standing part, inline
WHAT: rope bight, angle etc.
rope sicence angle of pull drops rope efficiency, half hitch for column pulls, ashley book of knots shows angle of pull very important
WHY: angle of pull
best nip positions per ashleys book of knots for half hitches, showing differances between what the eye sees/assumes and where greatest nip/pinch force is in knot

showing best nip postion for sheet bend and applied to bowline, why tails on same side works
WHY: Tails same side = safer
why bowline tail finish inside eye is best
WHY: Tail inside = safer
bowline 3 parts that function to secure nip, tail inside eye is best, most secure
HOW: tail locked safer

Sheet/Bowline Differances
Timber Hitch best angle of pull is inline, at right angle to host spar, if pull along spar should preced with half hitch, together called a killick hitch, this gives correct angle of pull then
HOW: Pull Angle
